The ability to live safely in your own home and achieve the highest possible level of functional independence in the community is an important part of living a happy and rewarding life.
Whether it’s for you or for a loved one, the highly experienced Occupational Therapists at Summit Allied Health are dedicated to helping people live their best lives by removing obstacles in daily life.
Contact us today to discuss how we can help.
Whether your challenges in daily life are due to aging, illness or disability, we’ll work with you to develop strategies to address them, and provide comprehensive recommendations to your relevant plan manager, service provider or funding agency.
Your solutions might include a combination of:
The cornerstone of our service is a thorough and compassionate understanding of your specific situation. We need to understand your lifestyle, challenges and goals before we can work with you to develop the strategies that will help you live your best life.
This understanding is vital if we are to provide insightful recommendations to service providers such as NDIS case managers or Home Care Package providers.
There is a wide range of equipment that can help you achieve your daily goals. It is vital, however, that these items are correctly prescribed to maximise functional outcomes, whilst also ensuring the item is safe and cost effective.
We can provide expert recommendations on the suitability of:
From a change in tapware, to a simple handrail in the bathroom, through to major modifications to parts of your home, we can provide sensible, practical and cost-effective recommendations.
We won’t recommend a complex modification if a more simple option is available, or other assistive equipment will meet your requirements, but sometimes it’s necessary to make a significant change – particularly if it’s expected that your condition will continue to progress and you need to future-proof your solution.
Where major modifications are required for our clients to live safely in their own homes, we’ll work clients, tradesmen, architects and other building experts to develop safe and practical solutions.
We understand that people want to live in their own homes for as long as possible, but at some stage we all need a little bit of help to ensure that this is achieved in a safe and dignified manner.
This assistance might include nursing care, home maintenance or other specialised care; we can provide tailored recommendations to ensure that you receive the best possible support outcomes.
Many daily living challenges can be met with education and adaptive strategies that will help people thrive. For example, education for clients and their carers is critical to any falls prevention strategies.
Let us help you live smarter – not harder.
A range of government funding is available for eligible people at the Federal and State levels. Some of the main funding vehicles are detailed below, with links to the relevant sites where you can check to see if you might qualify for financial assistance.
NDIS – National Disability Insurance Scheme
As an insurance scheme, the purpose of the NDIS is to fund reasonable, necessary and long-lasting solutions that will minimise the total amount of funding that will need to be provided in the future.
We can provide professional reports for you NDIS planner – who is not generally a clinical specialist – in order to maximise the likelihood that you will receive adequate funding for appropriate solutions that address your needs.
My Aged Care – Home Care Packages
The Australian Government wants to help aging Australians remain in their own homes for as long as it’s safe to do so. One of their strategies to achieve this is to provide Home Care Packages through My Aged Care.
We provide practical and comprehensive recommendations for Home Care Package clients, managers and providers to ensure that funding is used as effectively as possible.
Without the required knowledge or support, Home Care Packages funds are often used for inappropriate equipment, modifications and services. Let us work with you to take away the guess work so that you can benefit from our extensive experience in providing the most appropriate and practical solutions for your situation.
DVA – Department of Veterans’ Affairs
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs offers support to those who serve, or have served, in defence of our nation, and also to their families. This can include funding for equipment or modifications to help you remain at home longer, or for treatments to help you recover from an illness or injury.
Medicare and private health insurance rebates for private cients
If you don’t qualify for any other funding, you may still be eligible for other rebates as a private client.
Medicare rebates are available for five allied health services per calendar year for patients with chronic diseases, who are referred by their medical practitioner. More information is available here.
Depending on your level of cover, your private health insurance may also provide a rebate for allied health services.
Summit Allied Health has recently been established to provide occupational therapy services throughout the Sunshine Coast and surrounds.
We work with our clients in their homes, workplaces and other community locations to help them live their best lives. We do this by helping to remove obstacles in daily life and providing the tools that facilitate the highest practical standards of living and care.
Our Senior Occupational Therapist, Stacey Reid, began practicing in 2002 and she’s amassed a broad range of experience in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Her passion has always been for working with people in the community, and she revels in the opportunity to help people retain and regain control of their lives.
Everyone’s situation is different, and funding options can be complicated.
